It’s Fall! Can you believe it? It’s officially Autumn season, even though the weather here in Charlotte, NC has been in the 80’s many days!
It’s time for Fall decorating in your home. Fall is such a great time of the year. Here, in the Southeast area, the weather is conducive to these subtle Fall decor changes in your home.
What a perfect time it is to create those textured touches in the home!
We want your home to have subtle, Fall decor that is classic and also one that portrays an inviting, warm atmosphere.
- Add a few Fall touches of refined seasonal decor such as branches, pinecones and greenery.
- Keep a neutral base - creamy white, soft beiges and gentle grays.
- Layer neutrals with rich autumn tones such as touches of cinnamon, browns, like chestnut brown, touches of burgundy, and golden tones as well.
- Create BALANCE with rustic textures which are blended with elegant finishes that are polished and refined. These subtle changes do not need to be overdone or overwhelming. This will create a cluttered, mishmash for your eyes to behold!
- Your home should portray a “collected over time” look. Do not give the impression that your home has been decorated in a few hours . . . or not one that looks like a retail store with lots of seasonal items displayed!!
- Center on ELEGANCE with a lived-in relaxing touch. Natural materials and statement pieces create a warm, inviting atmosphere in your home. Add candles.
- These NATURAL MATERIALS for Autumn can include: throw pillows, a cozy blanket thrown over a chair, sofa or ottoman, chunky knit throws, and a season rug to pull the look all together. The added layers provide a richness, warmth and added dimension to the areas of design.
Creative branches with leaves
Allow your children or grandchildren to participate by creating “leaves” made from brown grocery bags! Help assist them with the hot glue gun when attaching the leaves to the branches that they find in the yard!
- The added TEXTURE which is KEY helps with this design rule of thumb: Include in the design: Rough/Soft. Smooth/Tactile
- It’s not just about color but the TOUCH by using natural materials such as linens, weathered wood trays, woven baskets, a stoneware vase paired with a soft knit.
- Other examples of TEXTURE are golden autumn leaf branches along with classic greenery and branches displayed in a large container.
- A TALL VASE with a few eucalyptus stems that are arranged and displayed in a natural and unrestrained way.
As you bring the OUTDOORS in, do not forget those outside areas are lived-in spaces as well. Enjoy the crisp Autumn evenings sitting around a fire roasting marshmallows!
Create an area in your backyard for a fire pit! Or, if you have a screened porch, enjoy curling up with a cozy blanket and a cup of hot cocoa and enjoy the crisp, Fall weather.
There is such beauty in layering these touches in your home. May you and yours cherish this Autumn season. Enjoy each other every moment in your home, as well as in your outdoor areas.
Well, that’s it for “stirring your creative juices” and to share a few ideas on how to create your HARVEST HOME.
